Make a beat in one bar
Press Play to hear the starting pattern. Pick Kick, Clap or Snare, or Hats, then tap the large steps to add or remove that part. The four rows each represent one beat; the four positions in a row divide that beat into sixteenths.
This workspace makes one four-beat bar. Try a single change, hear what happens and use Undo to bring the previous pattern back. Clear removes the hits from your pattern; Undo can recover them. No music theory or signup is needed.
Build rhythm with three different jobs
The kick gives a low pulse, the snare or clap adds a backbeat, and the hats divide the space between them. A common House starting point puts kicks on all four beats and claps on beats two and four. These are starting ideas, not rules about a genre.
Tempo changes how fast the bar moves. Straight, Light and Heavy swing change the spacing within each pair of sixteenths: the second position arrives later as swing increases. If your pattern has no hits on those positions, changing swing will not move any notes.
Keep the pattern or keep the sound
The drums are short, fixed excerpts of pre-made TunePal stems. The tool arranges them in your browser; it does not call an AI generation service or spend credits. WAV contains the rendered one-bar audio loop, including sample tails that wrap around the bar.
MIDI carries the note positions, velocities and tempo, with swing written into the timing. Your music software supplies its own drum sounds. A pattern link restores the editor without starting sound. Opening the separate TunePal app does not automatically import this beat.
Common questions
Can I download my beat without an account?
Yes. MIDI and WAV are prepared in your browser. You can edit, play, share the pattern link and download without entering an email.
How many steps are in a bar?
This tool uses sixteen positions in one 4/4 bar. Every group of four is one beat. Each instrument has its own 16-step pattern. Select one to edit four groups of four steps.
Why does my MIDI sound different?
MIDI contains musical instructions, not the sampled drums. Its sound depends on the drum instrument you load. Use WAV to keep this tool’s rendered audio.
